Okay, here's what I gathered from certain corners of the fandom: before the Hydra reveal, shipping Ward with Simmons instead of Skye was racist. However now, shipping him with Skye is racist. I shipped him with Skye and Simmons before and I ship him with Skye and Simmons now, so that means... what? Do they cancel each other out or what? These people are so confusing. (And by confusing I mean moronic.)

I don't read comments on tumblr; I just look at the pretty pictures. Why? Because everything you do and say will be "judged" by someone for something, in the most abrasive and absolute terms possible. I've never seen so much righteous indignation in my life, nor so many accusatory -isms and labels -- and I've been a human rights lawyer for two decades, and am somewhat familiar with the many and unfortunate ways in which people discriminate against one another on this planet.

Upshot -- life is FAR too short for me to worry about the frothing of some anonymous nineteen-year-old with a computer and a finely honed sense of entitlement.

I can understand not wanting to wade into that swamp. ;)

But in SGA fandom I've seen what happens when fans of a hated character just shut up and let the character bashing take over the fandom... in the end we all just left, and I'm loving AOS too much for that. I'm much too addicted to the fic. I need more fic! So I'm right in there, defending our little corner with teeth and claws.

But I really wish it wasn't necessary. I find these endless debates so tiring and unnecessary. Why can't they just enjoy their favorite aspects of the show and let us enjoy ours. No, apparently that's not an option. They have to school us on our moral inadequacies and terrible taste.

I know! I keep hoping it's just a phase but that phase has been lasting for years now.

The terrifying thing is, I can see how they came up with that logic, and that's just so wrong, that I can even perceive how they were thinking. Gaaaaahhhhhh and uuuuuuggggghh.

Well, the thought process behind it is not very complicated. It's too simple, I think that's a main problem. Once you recognize the pattern, you can basically predict the next thing they'll come up with.

A facepalm icon is essential in fandom.
